São Paulo – This week, on August 29, the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved the creation of the Brazil-Bahrain Parliamentary Group. The project to create the group had already been approved by the Senate in July. The initiative aims to foster international cooperation between parliamentarians from both countries.
In the Chamber, the proposal’s rapporteur was deputy Marcel van Hattem (Novo, Rio Grande do Sul). According to information released by the Chamber of Deputies’ official news agency, Hattem stated the creation of the group would allow the strengthening of diplomatic and commercial ties between the two countries.
The group could work within the scope of cultural relations, exchange, and technical cooperation between local and foreign entities. According to the Brazilian Congress, interparliamentary cooperation could be carried out through missions, events, studies, and the exchange of legislative and parliamentary experiences, among other activities.
Late last year, Brazil opened its embassy in Manama, the capital of the Arab country.
In terms of trade, Brazil exports products such as iron ore and agricultural products to the Gulf insular nation. On the other hand, Bahrain sells processed oil byproducts, chemicals, and aluminum to Brazil.
