Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian production of chicken eggs dropped 3% in the first quarter this year compared to the last quarter of 2018, to 908.43 million dozen eggs. As per data released this Tuesday (14) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), this is the first drop since the first quarter of 2017, when it saw a negative index of 1.2%. Compared to the first quarter last year, however, production grew 5.6%.
Egg exports to Arab eggs reached USD 8.16 million in the first quarter of 2019, a 12.9% increase over the last quarter of 2018 and 7.2% year-on-year increase, as per data from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are the two biggest markets in the region.
Cattle slaughter reached 7.77 million in the first quarter, down by 4.6% over the last quarter of 2018 but up by 0.3% year-on-year.
Chicken slaughter (1.45 billion animals) was up 2.3% over the last quarter of 2018 but down by 2% year-on-year.
