São Paulo – This Thursday (10), the interim Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, diplomat Maria Laura da Rocha, received at the Itamaraty Palace the figurative copies of the credentials of the new ambassador of Qatar to Brasília, Ahmad Mohammed Ali Mohamed Alshebani. The credential, or letter of credence, is a diplomatic letter to formalize the sending of an ambassador to a post in a given country. Rocha is secretary-general of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.
According to a note released by the Embassy of Qatar, Alshebani fully assumed his duties in Brazil with the act. Alshebani succeeds diplomat Ahmed Ibrahim Al Abdullah, who held the post for about five years.
Brazil and Qatar have well-established diplomatic ties, reciprocal embassies in Brasília and Doha, and a solid trade flow. Bilateral trade between the countries reached USD 564.4 million from January to July this year, with USD 408.4 million in exports from Qatar and USD 155.9 million in sales from Brazil. Qatar mainly purchases animal protein and ores from Brazil, and the Arab country supplies fertilizers and oil to the Brazilian market.
