São Paulo – Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Thursday (20), at the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change (pictured above) Brazil is committed to afforesting 12 million hectares in the Amazon and there could be no sustainability in a world at war.
Lula spoke at the online meeting with representatives of some of the world’s biggest economies, including Saudi Arabia. The United States hosted the forum, and the country’s president, Joe Biden, was congratulated by the Brazilian for the event.
Lula said the response to climate issues depends on coordinated action between countries, that Brazil is doing its part and will further progress its efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
He said Brazil would again reduce deforestation in the Amazon. “We are committed to afforesting 12 million hectares,” he said. According to the president, Brazil would work with other Amazonian countries and those with tropical forests in Africa and Asia.
After stating the effects of climate change aggravate poverty, hunger, and inequality in the world, he said Brazil is an uncompromising defender of peace among peoples. “There can be no sustainability in a world at war,” he said. “In addition to peace, it is paramount we seek relationships of trust between countries,” he said.
