São Paulo – Brazilian poultry protein exports (including all products, fresh and processed) totaled 420,900 tonnes in January, according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) this Wednesday (8). The volume is a record for the month and exceeds by 20.6% that of January 2022.
Export revenue in the year’s first month amounted to USD 856.6 million, 38.9% higher than in the same period last year.
The leading destination for Brazil’s poultry exports was China, which imported 60,200 tonnes in January, 24.7% more than in 2022’s same month. Other highlights were Japan, with 37,700 tonnes (+23.1%); Saudi Arabia, 32,400 tonnes (+111.3%); South Africa, 29,500 tonnes (+15 .7%); and the European Union, 21,800 tonnes (+20.4%).
“There was an increase in sales in virtually all major destinations for poultry exports from Brazil. The global setting, with supply pressure, among other reasons, due to the consequences of Avian Influenza in several territories, increased the demand for the Brazilian product. Despite the increase in foreign currency revenue, there is still intense pressure from production costs on products, which could influence sales in dollars in the coming months,” said in a note Luis Rua, market director of ABPA, recalling Brazil has never had and remains free of Avian Influenza in its territory.
