São Paulo – The 3rd edition of the Coffee Run and Walk, which will take place in the grounds of the Santa Elisa farm, in Campinas, 94 km from São Paulo, is scheduled for August 5, a Sunday. The race’s start will be at 8:30 am with a course of six kilometers. The event is being co-organized by Instituto Jerusalém do Brasil and the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Registrations are open.
Located 15 km from the city’s downtown, the historical farm is the main experimental center of the Campinas Agronomic Institute (IAC). The event also includes the Kids Race, for children from 5 to 10 years old, with a 200 meters course.
Registrations can be made in the event’s website at a cost of BRL 95 (USD 25.37) for the walk or run and BRL 48 (USD 12.82) for the children’s run and athletes over 60 years old. The race kit includes a t-shirt, number, tracking chip, cereal bar and a fruit basket with an isotonic drink at arrival, as well as a medal to all runners that finish the race.
Besides the course going through coffee plantations and a historic bamboo passageway, planted by Baron Geraldo de Rezende for his daughter, the runners will be offered a coffee tasting session at arrival. Plus, there will be Arab dance presentations and Arab food will be served.

The Campinas Coffee Festival – which presents Arab and Palestinian music concerts – is organizing the event, and its creator, the Foreign Relations professor at College of Campinas (FACAMP), Ali El-Khatib, said that the cultural and sporting event aims to promote the work of the Campinas Agronomic Institute on the research and development of the coffee sector in the Campinas region and in Brazil.
“We were able to gather, in the same event, the educational, cultural, tourism and sports sector, bringing the region’s community to visit a research center that is not open to visitation,” said El-Khatib, mentioning that the farm hosts research centers on fruits and vegetables, plus the Coffee Center “Alcides Carvalho”, named as a tribute to one of the world’s main coffee experts.
The five-times track international champion Conceição Geremias will be the race’s special guest. The athlete, which competed mainly in heptathlon (7 events), won a gold medal at the 1983 Pan-American Games in Caracas, Venezuela and competed in three Summer Olympic Games. Geremias was born and raised at the Santa Elisa farm, where her father used to work.
