São Paulo- Located in the state of Ceará, Carnaúba do Brasil has the foreign market as its great focus. With clients in around 20 countries, the company sells 98% of its production of 250 tonnes a month to countries like Germany, Japan and the United States, which purchase 60% of the total produced, and also to China, Peru, India, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
With partners who came from the carnauba wax industry, the company has exported since it was established, in 2004, as the partners had good knowledge of international buyers of the product. “They are buyers that are well known to the market,” pointed out Marina Azevedo, the export manager. “We are also much contacted by e-mail, by businessmen who visit our site and seek us,” she said.
Carnauba wax, explains the manager, has several uses and is sold in flakes, powder or pieces. “We sell mainly to the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and polish industries,” said Azevedo. The company also sells to organisations that resell the product. This is the case with our client in the Emirates, a trading company in Dubai, to which Carnaúba do Brasil started selling two years ago.
According to Azevedo, the company is seeking new clients, mainly in Asia. With regard to the Arab market, he says he has already made contact with companies in other regions, like Egypt, but that demand is small. “There is a problem because they require halal certification, which adds cost. We are going to wait and see if demand rises, to see whether complying with the requirement is worth it,” she said.
In Brazil, Carnauba palms are typical of the Northeast of Brazil. The leaves are picked from July to February. Carnaúba do Brasil has a factory in the city of Itarema and an office in Fortaleza. The company has 27 employees.
