One of the stories in Milton Hatoum’s new book, ‘A cidade ilhada’, is in honour of his grandfather. Hatoum, of Lebanese roots, created character Moamede, a merchant and storyteller.

The Arab country should be the subject of the parade of Copa Lord, from Florianópolis, in the next Carnival. In April, a team from the school is travelling to Morocco to do research on the country.

The city should show gastronomy, art and handicraft under theme ‘Morocco’. The exhibition should be in October, during a magic festival, to take place in the same moulds as the Moroccan edition.

The figure was supplied by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics. Out of that total, 87% are women who learnt the craft in their own family, from their mothers or grandmothers.

The Candido Mendes University in Petrópolis, state of Rio de Janeiro, will promote an event about the Arab country from March 9th to 30th, including a photo exhibition, film screenings and debates.

Movie director Paulo Nascimento should complete full-length movie ‘Em Teu Nome’ in July. The film tells the story of a student and Brazilian political exile, who lived in Algeria in the 1970s.

Brazilian musicians and singers Sergio Mendes and Tania Maria should participate in festival Rhythms of the World, in May, in Rabat. Mendes, internationally renowned, plays bossa nova and Tania, jazz.
