This statement was made by the minister of Economy and Trade of the Arab country, Amer Lutfi. He visited the offices of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, in São Paulo, on Thursday (10) where he spoke to ANBA about the economic opening process that Syria is promoting. One of the objectives of his visit to Brazil was to present to businessmen his country potential for attraction of foreign investment.

The Group of Export Companies (GEM) brings together 12 factories in the cities of Mirassol, Jaci, Tanabi and São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo. The union of businessmen from São Paulo makes possible the participation in international fairs. Starting on November 28, the group will be at Index, the largest furniture fair in the Middle East, which takes place in the United Arab Emirates.

The Syrian minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Amer Lutfi, made a proposal on Thursday during a visit to the Economic Development Secretariat of the State of São Paulo. At the Fiesp, he discussed the economic reforms that are in progress in his country and said he would prepare a list with the ideas of Syrian businessmen for joint investment.

The company, a maker of taps, mixers, showers and bathroom fittings, from the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, is going to participate in the Big 5 Show, the largest fair in the civil construction sector in the Middle East, to take place in the United Arab Emirates. The company hopes to have good acceptance of products that help economize water.

Brasília Export, established in the Brazilian capital in 2002, wants to sign a contract with a local distributor to return to sales to the Arab market. The partnership may be signed during the Index, the sector fair that is going to take place in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, between November 28 and December 02.

Exports by company Pegada (Footprint in Portuguese) to Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and the United Arab Emirates grew 120% in four years. The company ships 20% of its daily production of 5,000 shoes abroad. As the company target is to increase sales by 10% in 2006, they are going to invest in participation in foreign fairs, like Motexha, in Dubai.

The Brazilian government is going to promote between November 20 and 22 a business mission to Algeria. The objective is to reduce the trade balance deficit with the Arab country, which reached US$ 1.8 billion in the first nine months of 2005. Large companies like Brazilian oil giant Petrobras, Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer and Randon, a maker of trailers and semi-trailers, have already confirmed their presence in the delegation.

Abirochas is going to participate in the Big 5 Show, the largest construction material fair in the Middle East, to take place in the United Arab Emirates in November. According to the president of the organization, the Arab market has potential to import the products. "It is a promising market with high buying power," stated Sérgio Azeredo.

So as to stimulate exports to the Middle East and North Africa, industries in the furniture hub in Arapongas, in the interior of the state of Paraná, are going to participate in the Index fair, in Dubai. Eighteen companies connected to the Conex-Furniture Brasil consortium, plus companies Moval and Poquema, have already confirmed presence at the fair.

Ruette Spice, an exporter from the city of Campinas, in the interior of the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo, supplies black pepper and clove to Arab countries like Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Mauritania and Lebanon. The company works exclusively with the foreign market and traded 7,400 tonnes of pepper and 2,200 tonnes of clove in 2004.
