The Brazilian writer’s ‘A Hora da Estrela’ (The Hour of the Star) is in bookstores of major cities in Arab countries, such as Cairo, Dubai and Beirut. Egyptian researcher Maged ElGebaly translated the book into Arabic.

The Kalimat Foundation, from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, donated 100 children’s and young adult books in Arabic to the São Paulo Library, located at Youth Park, in São Paulo.
So said Fahim Al Qasimi, the head of a delegation from the emirate, during the opening ceremony of the São Paulo book fair, which features the Arab city as its guest of honor.
The emirate of Sharjah is the guest of honor of the São Paulo International Book Biennial. It will present dozens of works translated from Arabic into Portuguese during the event. There will also be cultural events and conversations with writers from the region.
The play ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ includes stories from the classic work and life testimonies of Arab refugees living in Rio de Janeiro. The play will run until September 9 at Oi Futuro Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro.
The comic book ‘Khalil e sua turma’ (loosely translated, Khalil and Friends) will be launched by Fambras during the São Paulo International Book Biennial. The comics discuss Islamophobia among children.
One of the country’s major contemporary art exhibitions is accepting submissions from Brazilians and foreigners interested in exhibiting their works in the 2019 edition. Prizes reach up to BRL 100,000 (USD 27,910).
The award is given to individuals or institutions that have contributed to the spread of the Arab culture. Submissions by Brazilians must be forwarded to Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) until August 15.
