São Paulo – Aimed at making communication with the Brazilian community living in Lebanon closer, the Consulate General of Brazil in Beirut has created its own Facebook page.
The page should discuss matters of interest to the expatriate community, whereas information regarding visas, passports and other consular activities should continue being dealt with on the organisation’s official web page (www.cgbrasil.org).
On air for less than one month, the page already has 235 members, and is regularly updated with information regarding cultural, political and financial events that affect Brazilians in Lebanon.
"It is one more instrument for communication with the community and is a tool that has shown itself very useful," said Luiz Eduardo Pedroso, joint consul-general for Beirut, who is responsible for the social network at the organisation.
Among the information already disclosed through the channel are the promotion of a cinema exhibition, the availability of the Government Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) for Brazilians residing abroad and the promotion of a celebration of the Indian’s Day, turned to children. Information about elections and emergency procedures are also published on the Facebook page.
According to Pedroso, the page may also be used to promote the work of Brazilians residing in Lebanon. "Brazilian professionals operate in several areas. It could be a channel for promotion of the work of these Brazilians for the community," he said.
Pedroso bets on the speed of the tool to improve the exchange of information with the community. "Facebook creates a more immediate community with greater informality," he said. With around 10,000 Brazilians living in Lebanon, Pedroso believes that the number of members on the consulate page should grow much. "I believe we may reach 2,000," he said. To be included in the consulate’s Facebook community, all you have to do is visit link http://www.facebook.com/CG.Beirute and click on button "Like".
