São Paulo – Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply created a committee to oversee and devise strategies to cushion the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on farm output and the supply of food products to the population. The move was made public this Tuesday (31) in the Federal Gazette, under a ruling signed by Agriculture minister Tereza Cristina.
The committee comprises officials from the Ministry, the National Supply Company (Conab) and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). Apart from policymaking, the group will review production, the market, and infrastructure. The ruling provides that work will be done along two lines: short-term oversight and solutions, and medium-to-long-term structural adjustment policies.
