São Paulo – The children’s clothing line of Elian, a company based in Santa Catarina state, can be found in stores in Palestine and Saudi Arabia. The first shipment to the Arab world was sent in January of this year and now the company is also looking to enter the markets of Egypt, Sudan and Jordan.
“The client in Palestine has two stores and the one in Saudi Arabia is a distributor”, says Eduardo Marcelo Horongoso, exports coordinator at Elian. The brand manufactures clothing for children and teens, from 3 months to 18 years old. According to the executive, the reaction to Elian’s clothing among the Arabs “has been very good”.
The majority of the products shipped were kids’ clothing, but Elian also sent pants and blouses of its brand Marialícia, designed for women. In order to start selling, the company incorporated labels in Arabic to the clothes and packages.
The kids and teens’ clothing line manufactured by Elian have sets of T-shirts and shorts, dresses, coats and pants. “The pastel-based colors are well liked, but they look for more colorful and fun products. These attract their attention a little more”, says Horongoso about the Arabs’ preferences.
The executive doesn’t reveal the company’s output volume, but says that exports account for 2.5% to 3% of revenues. “The Arab market represents 10% of exports”, he says. To him, the quick development of sales in the region indicates that there can be an even higher growth. “It’s very clear that prospects are very encouraging. To reach this percentage in a year’s work is very satisfying”, he says.
Currently, Elian operates in 11 countries and its main export destinations are Bolivia and Paraguay. “Our goal is to reach 5% of total revenues with exports until the end of next year”, says Horongoso.
About their interest in the Egyptian, Sudanese and Jordanian markets, he says that these “are three countries that show a lot of potential”. “These are the places where we will look for new businesses”, he adds.
Elian was founded in 1990, its central office is located in Jaraguá do Sul and it has 1,000 employees.
