São Paulo – Dubai’s foreign trade in coffee generated AED 3.5 billion (USD 925.7 million) in the last ten years, the UAE official news agency Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported earlier this week.
The figure includes the emirate’s imports and exports. WAM reported that Dubai acts as a central logistic hub linking markets in the Middle East and Europe with coffee manufacturing countries such as Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Uganda, and Vietnam.
Nassim Al Mehairi, senior manager of Statistics Department at Dubai Customs, said that the sector receives support from Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, which links coffee producers and buyers. He says that the emirate has strategies to foster its leading trade position worldwide.
Figures show that Dubai’s coffee trade in H1 2020 grew by 5% to AED 253 million (USD 69 million) compared to AED 240 million (USD 65 million) a year ago. The volume traded amounted to 14,000 tons.
Major partners in Dubai’s coffee imports are Switzerland at AED 33 million (USD 9 million), Italy at AED 23 million (USD 6.2 million), and Brazil at AED 22 million (USD 5.9 million), and main re-export partners are Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
