São Paulo – Dubai’s eagerly-awaited Museum of the Future, named one of the most beautiful museums on the planet, will open to the public on February 22. The news was announced by Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, on Thursday (3).
The Museum of the Future will showcase advanced technologies which will shape society for decades to come, including virtual and augmented reality, big data analysis, artificial intelligence and human-machine interaction. It is primed to be an incubator of ingenuity, attracting the brightest inventors and entrepreneurs.
The futuristic form aims to open a new path away from the high-rise towers that dominate skylines of the emirate. The circular building represents humanity; the green mound it sits atop represents the earth; the void represents the unknown future.
Regarded as an architectural and engineering marvel across the world, – it confidently straddles the past and the future, applying advanced technology to traditional art-forms. The stainless-steel facade, which extends over 17,000 square meters, is illuminated by 14,000m of Arabic calligraphy designed by the Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej.
Spanning an area of 30,000 square meters, the seven-story structure is 77 meter tall. The vast space will be home to a research center with labs and classrooms, as well as space for museum-goers to experience new technologies
The museum will be powered by 4,000 megawatts of solar energy produced by a station connected to the building. A park surrounding the museum contains 80 species of plants and is equipped with a state of the art intelligent and automatic irrigation system. The building is targeting LEED Platinum certification in line with the its overall commitment to sustainability.
The museum on Shei Sheikh Zayed Road can be reached through the Jumeirah Emirates Towers or the Emirates Towers subwaty station.
