São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce should promote talk Perspectives for the Brazilian Economy, with economist Eduardo Giannetti da Fonseca, on August 20, at 7:00 pm, at the organisation’s offices, in São Paulo.
At the talk, Giannetti, who has a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge, England, and is one of the most renowned economists in Brazil, will analyse the economic scenery in the country. “I am going to show why the Brazilian economy, which was so promising, has been disappointing in recent years and changing expectations,” he said.
To him, the economic policy of the Dilma Rousseff government is “too interventionist” and “has abandoned pillars like the fiscal surplus, exchange rate fluctuation and engagement with inflation targets”. The economist considers that the current economic policy of the president “has lost clarity and coherence”.
For coming years, he should cover two possible sceneries. “The most probable scenery in the short-term is for there to be no change. In the medium term, it will depend on the result of elections. There may be a revision of these mistakes or persistence, in case the group in power receives a new mandate,” he evaluated.
The economist should also speak about the most promising economic sectors in Brazil and evaluate the country’s workers. “We have a high proportion of people in working age in Brazil as against the number of children and elderly, but we are already consuming this dividend,” he said, explaining that in coming years, the proportion of people in working age should drop.
He will also discuss the growth of Brazil’s middle class. “It was an important movement up to 2010, but is already giving signs of retraction,” he added.
