São Paulo – The embassy of Egypt to Brasília is promoting an effort for tourists from Brazil to return to the Arab country. According to information disclosed by the Egyptian ambassador to Brazil, Ahmed Darwish, the embassy is prepared to meet representatives of travel operators and to answer inquiries about the safety of Egyptian tourists.
"I want to inform operators that tourism in Egypt is 100% safe and I also want to motivate Brazilians to travel there," he said. The diplomat said that tourist sites are safe in Egypt. Tourism activity dropped significantly in the country since popular protests broke out, causing the fall of president Hosni Mubarak.
"All tourists are safe and tourist sites are too. Sites like Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor and the pyramids are all safe," he said in an interview to ANBA. According to Darwish, "tourists are not targets" for attack in his country. "We had the revolution, but it is all calm now," he said.
According to travel operators, Egypt is one of the Arab destinations most sought by Brazilian tourists, who feel attracted, mainly, by the pyramids and the millenary history of the country. Tourism is also an important source of income for Egyptians.
