São Paulo – Elmokkaden Company, based in Cairo, Egypt, is looking for beef and poultry suppliers in Brazil. The company does not buy from Brazil yet, and had meetings with local businesses this Thursday (8th) at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce headquarters, in São Paulo.
The trading company is not dealing in poultry at this time, and has chosen to import the product from Brazil since the country ships large volumes abroad. “I am in Brazil to deal directly with the local companies. I already work with companies in Romania, Bulgaria, Argentina, Ukraine and Russia,” says chairman Mohamed El Mokkadem regarding imports of other foodstuffs. He is being accompanied by Mohsen Wahab, the company’s commercial director.
The main items imported by Elmokkaden include maize and soy bran, but the company also exports food products. This week, for instance, the enterprise is attending the 30th edition of the fair of the São Paulo State Supermarket Association (Apas), which closed this Thursday in São Paulo, where it is looking to strike export deals for dates and potato-based snacks. According to the chairman, the company exports the equivalent of US$ 30 million per year.
Silvana Roveri, a partner of the Brazilian trading company FR. Castro, spoke with the Egyptian importer and says a negotiation is underway. “They are looking for whole, griller-type chicken,” says the executive. According to her, the Egyptians should pay a visit to her chicken supplier’s plant in Curitiba this weekend.
“Today we have started negotiating 1,000 tonnes over a six-month period. I am shipping a 40-tonne container so they can get to know the product, and they will probably use their own brand on the product,” she says.
