São Paulo – El Sewedy group, one of the main private companies in Egypt, is interested in exploring the Brazilian market and studying investment opportunities in the country. For this purpose, two of the company representatives arrived in São Paulo yesterday and will stay in Brazil up to August 9th. Today (27) they will visit the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
The company, which makes electric and telecommunications cables, is evaluating the possibility of producing in Brazil in partnership with a local company. According to information supplied by the commercial office of Egypt in São Paulo, both of the company executives, Francisco Gonzales Molina and Karim Nazih, respectively new business director and manager, are going to visit the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, in the southeast of Brazil, Santa Catarina (S), Brasília (Midwest) and Bahia (NE).
They are going to meet representatives of companies and sectorial organizations, among them Weg, Nortel, Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz (CPFL), Petrobras, the Bank of Brazil, the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), the Brazilian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (Abinee), as well as public organizations like the Ministry of Labour, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex).
Apart from various kinds of cables, the group also makes plastic products, transmission and telecommunications towers, light fixtures and transformers, among others. The group supplies various industries in the auto, aeronautical, railway, construction and oil sectors as well as the electric and telecommunications industries, even underwater. They also develop specific projects in the energy and telecommunications areas.
Still according to the Egyptian commercial office, El Sewedy also owns or has shares in another 12 companies and 15 factories in Egypt, Sudan, Syria and Ghana. Last year the group had revenues of US$ 820 million and hopes to reach US$ 1.2 billion this year. The company dominates 50% of the cable market in Egypt and employs 4,000 people.
