São Paulo – Imbil, a company based in São Paulo, exports pump systems for the oil and gas, sanitation and air conditioning industries in the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan. Now, the company is working to expand its business in the region.
“Two years ago, we started doing intensive work in Africa and the Middle East,” explains Export supervisor Sandro Odagima. Apart from consolidated sales to some countries in the region, Imbil is in talks to sell to Egypt, Iraq and Kuwait.
“We supply a wide range of industries, but the flagship is oil and gas,” says the executive regarding sales to Arabs. “The pumps are tailor-made to suit the application of each client, they are customized,” he adds.
In the region, the company regularly attends the Adipec oil industry fair, held in Abu Dhabi. “We focus on the Adipec because it is a segmented fair, but we are planning on taking part on yet another event, maybe the Big 5,” says the executive, referring to the construction fair in Dubai.
The company has exclusive distribution contracts with companies in the Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan and Saudi Arabia. The local companies operate as representatives of the Brazilian enterprise in their countries.
Currently, 20% of Imbil’s revenues originate from exports. The company’s leading target market is the United States, but it also sells to Latin American countries and to Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France and Spain.
This year, the company plans on increasing the share of foreign sales in overall revenues to 30%. “We are hoping the work we are doing in the Middle East will be conducive to this increase,” says the supervisor. In 2013, the company posted R$ 190 million in revenues(US$ 80.3 million at current exchange rates). In 2014, the target is to exceed R$ 200 million (US$ 84.5 million).
Imbil was founded 35 years ago, is based in the city of Itapira, in the state of São Paulo, and has over 700 employees.
