São Paulo – Exports by Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) member companies in Jordan grew 10% in the first half of this year over the same period in 2022, reaching JOD 1.8 billion, equivalent to about USD 2.5 billion at the current rate. Data is from the local news agency, Jordan News Agency (Petra).
Except for the plastics, rubber, and furniture industries, which had a drop in exports, most sectors reported an increase in foreign sales in the period, between 3% and 20%.
India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq accounted for over half of the exports by ACI members during the first three months of the year, equivalent to JOD 993 million (about USD 1.4 billion).
ACI sales to India fell by 14% in the first quarter of 2023, and to the United States increased by 21%. There was also an increase in shipments to the Saudis, 12%, and to Iraqis, at the same percentage.
The most-exporting sector was mining, followed by chemicals and cosmetics, engineering, electrical, and technology. Food, agriculture, and livestock were also exported, as well as therapeutic products and medical supplies, leather & textiles, and packaging, among others.
