São Paulo – Brazilian slaughterhouse Frialto is seeking new clients in the Arab world. The company has been exporting raw beef to the region for around eight years and has clients in Egypt, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
"It is an important market and we want to increase business there, mainly in the case of frozen products. We are also going to start a programme for sales of chilled products to Saudi Arabia,” pointed out Eliane Pires, the trader at Frialto.
Frialto produces 6,000 tonnes of beef a month, of which 2,000 are turned to export. The main market for the company is Egypt, which is the fourth main destination for foreign sales by the slautherhouse, after Chile, Iran and Venezuela. In total, the company exports to around 20 countries.
Of the 2,000 tonnes shipped abroad each month, around 600 tonnes go to Arab clients, which include supermarkets and distributors. To reach new clients in the Middle East, Frialto should participate, for the first time, in a stand at Gulfood, the main fair in the food sector in the region, to take place from February 19th to 22nd, in Dubai.
“We had already sent a representative to visit the fair in two other editions, but this is the first time we are going to participate with a stand within the Abiec (Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association) area,” explained Pires.
The main Frialto focus is not entering other Arab nations, but increasing the number of buyers in two countries in which it operates. “We want more clients in the Emirates themselves, because it is a country that buys much and ships to other nations. We also want to start the chilled beef programme in Saudi Arabia, as it is a market with great buying power,” explained the trader.
Pires explains that the project for export of chilled beef to Saudi Arabia should start with the revitalisation of a Frialto plant in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Currently, the company’s three operating plants are in Mato Grosso, and the headquarters are in Sinop.
Apart from plants in the Midwestern region, Frialto also has offices in the cities of São Paulo and a distribution centre in Jundiaí, in the interior of São Paulo. Currently, the slaughterhouse has 2,000 employees.
