São Paulo – The relationship between the search for fulfillment of the human desire and the individualism of contemporary society will be the topic of the lecture Existential Marketing for a Narcissism Culture to be presented by Luiz Felipe Pondé, philosopher and columnist of newspaper Folha de São Paulo next Wednesday (11th) at 7 PM at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
According to Pondé, existential marketing is found within the search of fulfillment of the human desire. He explains that the market seeks, from psychologists and other professionals, to know what the practical desires of people are to be able to meet them. “This puts aside a more in-depth approach [of the human being] and favors a more pragmatic approach”, he says.
“The narcissistic society is an individualistic society, focused on itself. Thus, the existential marketing is ever more present”, explains the philosopher.
For him, this search for the fulfillment of individual desires ends up generating an isolation of people. “In the narcissistic society, people are very lonely”, he points out. As examples of the most common desires nowadays, Pondé mentions trips and variations in relationships. “These are typical of societies with few bonds”, he says.
About the role of social media, he says that they reproduce and also produce behaviors that already are contemporary trends. “It’s not only young people doing it”, he says. Pondé believes that existential marketing impacts people mainly from 30 to 60 years old.
