São Paulo – Steel company Gerdau signed a protocol of intention with the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul last week to expand the Riograndense manufacturing plant in Sapucaia do Sul. The company will invest R$ 460 million (US$ 226 million) in boosting production capacity at the unit, according to information published on the state government website.
After the expansion works, output will go from 450,000 tonnes to 650,000 tonnes a year. Sections of the factory complex will also be modernized and technologically updated, so as to improve product quality. Works should be completed in the second half of 2015. The project will get fiscal benefits.
