São Paulo – The São Paulo-based company Ideia glass’ main focus is on shower boxes, but it also makes glass panes, doors, prolongers and other glass items. The company already exports to four countries in South America and 20% of its revenues originate from exports.
“What sets us apart is raw material. Most boxes are made from aluminium, while ours is made from tin, which has a longer warranty than aluminium,” explains Érico Oliveira Miguel, the company’s marketing manager.
“Some [of the boxes] are made of stainless steel, which has an even longer warranty. Another exclusive feature is our quality control. The items are inspected one by one, and if any defect is found the item is discarded,” he says.
Miguel says the company started exporting in 2009 to Uruguay. Now, the company also sells to clients in Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador. Contacts with these countries came about at glass industry fairs in São Paulo, but the company also attends fairs in Germany and China.
According to the manager, foreign clients favour unique-styled boxes. “There is a dearth of quality products on South American market,” he says.
Ideia Glass works with outsourced production and takes charge of assembly, quality control and distribution. In foreign countries, the company sells exclusively to distributors, whereas in Brazil it also sells to forgeries.
“Our parts are designed with an eye to installation and to harmonizing with the entire bathroom,” says Miguel, noting that the company invests in shower box design above all else.
Ideia Glass has 40 employees, was founded in 2007 and posts R$ 4 million (US$ 1,72 million) in annual revenues.
