São Paulo – Marcelo Nabih Sallum, the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, will deliver the lecture A new view of the Arab world next Saturday (21st) at the Syrian Sports Club in São Paulo. The event will tackle economic development in Arab countries over the past few decades.
“I am going to discuss noteworthy events in Arab countries starting in the 50s, after oil exploration started,” says Sallum. “I will provide an overview of the Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and list other projects underway,” the executive explains.
Plenty of progress has taken place in Arab countries. Bahrain, for instance, currently boasts one of the world’s most cutting-edge Formula 1 circuits. Qatar Airways is considered the world’s second-best airline, and the United Arab Emirates-based DP World is now the leading ports administrator in the world.
The Emirates has been picked to host a Ferrari theme park. The country also hosts a wholly sustainable city, Masdar City. The project, which is evaluated at US$ 19.8 billion, will be home to up to 50,000 people.
Sallum will also enumerate the various Brazilian companies operating in the Arab countries, such as Petrobras, Marcopolo, O Boticário, BRF, Queiroz Galvão, Vale, and JBS. He will also list Arab companies which are active in Brazil, like Emirates, ABC Brasil bank and Qatar Holding, to name a few.
“I want to provide a counterpoint to the news people are used to seeing about the region, and showcase a new side which many people are unfamiliar with,” Sallum points out.
