São Paulo – São Paulo-based Fine Cosméticos already has in the Arab market its main export destination and the company wants to further expand its business in the region. Currently, the industry sells to distributors in Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt.
“We’re negotiating with a distributor that wants to operate throughout the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council)”, says Vanessa Rolmo, responsible for the Foreign Trade Department of the company. The GCC is formed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait. Sales to the Arab countries begun in 2012, but only last year they displayed a strong growth.
“We export to ten countries and the Arab world is the main market. We export two tons of products per month. From this, one ton goes to Saudi Arabia”, says the executive.
Fine produces cosmetics for professional use and for maintenance of treatments done in hair salons. According to Rolmo, the top-selling products to Arabs are those for treatments such as hair hydration, recovery of the hair strings and maintenance of treatments.
“The company always keeps its focus in launching news formulas, better than the ones in the market. The result is a better-treated, silken and aligned hair”, says the executive about the exclusive features of Fine’s cosmetics.
To sell to the Arabs, however, some adjustments were necessary. “The climate in the Arab world is very different and, also, the water is a lot more saline”, says Rolmo. The different regulatory requirements also caused some other modifications. “We had to change some things, such as preservatives, for instance”. Besides, Fine included Arabic to is labels of products sold to the region.
To increase sales to the Arabs, Fine attended the BeautyWorld Middle East this year, the main fair of the cosmetics sector that is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “The Dubai fair is very good, the return is very good”, says Rolmo. The participation in the event generated some sales contracts from Qatar, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Negotiations with the distributor that offered to operate in the Gulf also are a result of Fine’s participation in the BeautyWorld Middle East. According to Rolmo, the potential client is based in Saudi Arabia.
The executive says that, besides the countries it already operates on, Fine also is planning to sell to Tunisia and expand exports to Egypt. Overall, the company plans to expand its sales in 10% this year.
