São Paulo – Two seminars in the Brazilian Center-West state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the cities of Campo Grande and Dourados, will show food and beverage manufacturers how to export to Muslim countries. The events are organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
The seminar in Campo Grande will be in the auditorium of the Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (FIEMS), starting at 8:30 am AMT, on August 15, and the event in Dourados will be in the auditorium of the Commercial and Business Association, starting 8:30 am AMT on August 17.
The seminars are part of the actions of the Halal Brazil project carried out by the ABCC and ApexBrasil to expand exports of value-added food and beverages with halal certification.
“Brazil is already an important food supplier to these countries,” explained Silvana Gomes, Marketing & Content director of the ABCC. “We are the world’s largest exporters of halal animal protein. But our sales are still restricted to staple foods such as animal protein, sugar, and grains.”
According to the executive, one of the reasons for the low presence of value-added food and beverage exports to Muslim countries is still the limited supply of products with halal certification, which attests to production under the cultural and religious guidelines of Islam.
The events in Mato Grosso do Sul will highlight the role of certification in accessing Islamic markets, which in the food and beverage categories alone generates around USD 1.267 trillion in revenue a year worldwide. It will also detail the actions of the Halal Brazil project, which expects to invest BRL 15 million (about USD 3.05 million at the current rate) in commercial promotion initiatives abroad, in addition to subsidies for companies interested in obtaining their first halal certification.
