Rio de Janeiro – The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA, acronym in Portuguese) increased to 0.75% in March this year. In February, the rate was 0.43%. The rate was also higher than the 0.09% of March last year. IPCA is the official indicator of inflation in Brazil.
According to data published this Wednesday (10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, acronym in Portuguese), the cumulative change in the year is 1.51%, while the cumulative rate for the last 12 months went to 4.58%.
Last month’s rate was the highest for March since 2015 (1.32%). The cumulative in the year is the highest for the first quarter since 2016 (2.62%). The cumulative for 12 months is the highest since February 2017 (4.76%).
According to IBGE, inflation in March was heavily influenced by the higher prices in foods and beverages (1.37%) and transports (1.44%), which accounted for 80% for the inflation rate in the month.
