São Paulo – Jandaia, the fruit juice and nectar manufacturer from Brazil’s Ceará state, has begun to export its products to the United Arab Emirates. Via its distributor in Portugal, the Brazilian company has signed an exclusivity agreement for a distributor in Dubai to sell the product locally and prospect other markets in the Middle East and North Africa.
“We have signed a one-year contract to sell three containers per month. The first container got there in late November, mostly for sampling and marketing purposes,” says Martônio Moraes, the Exports supervisor for Jandaia.
This first sale to the Emirates includes nectars and juices in 1 litre, 500 ml and 200 ml packages. The flavours in the batch are guava, mango, passion fruit, cashew, acerola, pineapple, polli frutti, tangerine and an apple-grape mix.
“As per this exclusivity agreement for the Middle East and North Africa, our distributor will have from six months to a year to seek out new clients and increase monthly container purchase numbers,” says Moraes, noting that the deal is renewable on a yearly basis.
Currently, Jandaia makes 4.5 million litres of juices and nectars each month, 99% of which are sold domestically. The remainder is exported to the United States, Portugal, Spain, England, Holland, Angola, and now to the United Arab Emirates. The company is also in talks with Russia and Cape Verde.
Moraes explains that Jandaia has exported a higher share of its output in the past, and is working on its foreign sales again. “We see a very strong potential,” the executive says regarding the Arab market. “The outlook for business in the UAE and other Arab League countries is great,” he claims.
Apart from the Arab countries, the distributor for Jandaia in Dubai is also working on sales to Iran and Russia. Eventually, Moraes reveals, the company should also make packaging labelled in Arabic.
Jandaia was founded in 1941 and is based in the city of Pacajus, Ceará. The company’s portfolio features 30-plus products and the flagship export item is whole cashew juice concentrate.
