São Paulo – The Jordanian princess, Muna Al-Hussein, mother to the country’s king, Abdullah II, expressed interest in placing Brazilian and Jordanian nursing universities in touch, so that the institutions may exchange experiences. The matter was among the topics addressed this Thursday (29th) during a meeting between the princess and the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce , Salim Taufic Schahin, in São Paulo.
“She also showed interest in visiting, in the future, elderly support centres maintained by our community,” said Schahin. “Relations between Brazil and Jordan are important,” added the president of the organization, underscoring the importance of the princess’ visit.
To Ramez Goussous, the Jordanian ambassador to Brasília, the princess’ visit strengthens the existing good relations between the two countries. He also talked about the visit that Muna paid to the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, last Tuesday, as disclosed by ANBA. “it was a very successful visit, because as a result we are going to exchange information and technology. Perhaps we will receive students, provide them with training, and vice versa. There are definitely many things that we can do,” he claimed.
On Wednesday, Muna attended the opening of the 8th Meeting of the Global Network of Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery of the World Health Organization (WHO). During her talk with Schahin, she told him about her activities geared towards recognition of nursing professionals. “My task is to strengthen (the nursing profession) and encourage it,” said the princess.
She also mentioned a desire of getting to know the country better. “I would like to return to Brazil and explore it a little further.” Regarding tourism, the possibility of a direct flight between Jordan and Brazil was discussed, and the visibility that Brazilian soap opera Viver a Vida (Living Life), made by the Globo TV network, granted the Arab country. “They have given us free advertising in Brazil,” said Muna.
At the end of the meeting, Schahin gave the princess a basket made from "capim dourado" (a typical Brazilian material) with chocolates filled with cupuassu. Muna also gave him a present. The meeting was attended by Mustapha Abdouni, honorary consul of Jordan to São Paulo and Arab Brazilian Chamber director, and Elias Hadi, the Chamber’s commercial secretary.
