São Paulo – The minister of Energy of Iraqi Kurdistan, Achti Horami, said that oil and gas production in the region should reach two million barrels a day by 2019. The statement was made yesterday (5) during the World Economic Forum in Istanbul, Turkey, according to information disclosed by television network Al Jazeera.
Horami also informed that the region should issue an international tender for the construction of pipelines for crude oil transport to the global market. According to him, the government of Kurdistan hopes to reach the one million barrel of oil figure by 2015. Last year, the region produced around 120,000 barrels a day.
According to Horami, the government of Kurdistan hopes that the new pipelines may be built by the private sector for the transport of heavy oil to be extracted in Kurdish fields over the next two years.
