São Paulo – The Kuwait government donated US$ 50 million to the Palestinian Reform and Development Plan (PRDP), established in 2008 by the World Bank. In a press statement released this week, the bank informs that the funds will be allocated to social services, education and healthcare.
The agreement for the donation was signed by the Kuwaiti ambassador to Washington, Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the World Bank vice president for the Middle East and North Africa, Inger Andersen. “The State of Kuwait considers the budget support to the Palestinian Authority crucial in order to ensure the social and economic well-being of its citizens,” said Al-Sabah.
According to the World Bank, since its inception, the fund has received US$ 900 million in donations, of which US$ 850 million have been disbursed. Including this latest US$ 50 million donation, Kuwait has donated US$ 180 million to the PRDP.
