São Paulo – A group of Brazilian university presidents is in Lebanon to attend the 1st Meeting of Brazil-Lebanon University Presidents. Activities began this Wednesday (16) at the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center (pictured), an arm of the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut.
According to Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center director Monica Bazi, the event will continue on Thursday at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and on Friday back at the Cultural Center.
The presidents will discuss subjects pertaining to Brazilian and Lebanese universities. USEK will be involved because it is home to the Latin America Studies and Cultures Center (LASCC).
Speakers this Wednesday included the ambassador of Brazil to Lebanon, Jorge Kadri, USEK president, priest and professor Georges Hobeika, Lebanese American University (LAU) president Joseph Jabbra, and National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) president George Tohme.
Also addressing the audience today was Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) president Soraya Smaili, who represents Grupo Coimbra de Universidades Brasileiras (GCUB), an association comprising over 70 universities in Brazil.
