São Paulo – On the 29th this month, Rubens Hannun, vice-president of Foreign Trade of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, will deliver the lecture The Opportunity of the Arab Market and the New Consumer. The event is open to both guest companies and Arab Chamber member companies.
“The Arab market has a huge potential, we’re talking about more than 380 million consumers”, says Hannun. “Countries such as Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco have free trade agreements with the European Union, therefore, through these countries we can reach Europe and Africa also. Besides, there’s the Gulf, which sells to India and other countries. So, if you take a look at the market, you will notice that the potential is wonderful”, he said.
Hannun also considers the good relationship between Brazil and the Arab countries a “competitive edge” for the Brazilian companies that want to operate in the region. “They like to buy from Brazil”, he says, referring to buyers in the Middle East and North Africa.
The executive also points out to a change of the consumers’ profile in that region. “This new consumer, with the Arab Spring, is changing his profile. This consumer is turning a little more to a Western modernity, but without giving up specific values. You have to understand this culture, otherwise you won’t have a relationship with them”, he said.
Another factor cited by Hannun is that, in the Arab countries, in contrast to what happens in other countries in Europe or even Japan and Brazil, there’s a trend for the increase of the working population. “They’re very young countries considering the population, so there are very strong dynamics and consumption in these countries. It’s a market that is open, that is growing”, he says.
In the lecture, Hannun will show data about the sectors of cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical products in the Arab countries, and also about how consumers of that region think before buying and their relationship with the brands available in the market.
