São Paulo – Wines made by the Miolo Wine Group may now be appreciated by customers of the restaurant of the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi Hotel’s, one of the leading luxury hotels in the emirate, and of Chamas, a Brazilian barbecue restaurant in the same emirate.
There are five types of fine wines produced in the state of Rio Grande do Sul: Miolo Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Miolo Reserva Chardonnay, Gran Lovara, RAR and Quinta do Seival Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition to the restaurants mentioned above, the wines are already sold at the Le Meridien Hotel, in Dubai.
"The strategy of placing wines in sophisticated restaurants and stores abroad yields fantastic results to the company in terms of image and product placing, aside, of course, from contributing for sales to increase," says Morgana Miolo, the company’s International Marketing manager. The executive also claims that the enterprise is working to place its wines in other hotels and restaurants in the region.
According to Morgana, when the time comes to select the locations that will offer its beverages, Miolo opts for hotels and restaurants that offer an international wine list and which "offer tourists a wide variety of wines from different countries." In general, wines are usually consumed by foreigners in hotels and restaurants that are licensed to sell alcohol.
Miolo began selling to the United Arab Emirates in 2008, after participating in the London Wine Fair, during which an Arab importer got to know the company’s products. Now, sales to the Emirates are made directly by this importer, who is responsible for distributing the wine in the Arab country.
Morgana also believes that it is possible to take Miolo’s wines to other countries in the region. "For the time being, we are working with a single importer and with the Emirates alone. In the future, we will look into market entry strategies," she says.
According to information supplied by Miolo, the company is achieving good results through its strategy of placing its wines on the markets to which it exports. One of the main countries is Britain, where the beverage may be found in places such as Benares and Buddha Bar. Presently, the enterprise sells to 24 different countries.
Based in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the Miolo Wine Group has been selling wines since 1990 and holds a 40% share of the Brazilian wine market. The company is the country’s leading wine exporter, and posted 95 million Brazilian reais (US$ 53.5 million) in revenues in 2009.
