Morocco welcomed 7 million visitors year-to-date through July, up 7% from a year ago, Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) reported this Thursday (7) based on numbers from the country’s National Tourism Office.
Foreign tourist numbers were up 15%, while the number of expatriate nationals visiting the country was down 1%. Tourist flows were up 14% from Italy, 9% from Germany, 6% from France and 5% from the UK.
Hotel stays were up 10%, with Marrakech and Agadir (pictured above) accounting for 60% of nationwide numbers and increases of 12% and 10%, respectively. Hotel stays rose by 19% in Fez, 13% in Rabat and 9% in Tangiers.
Revenue from tourism reached MAD 38.3 billion (USD 4 billion), up 9.4% year-on-year.
July saw a 2% drop in tourist flows, with international travelers increasing by 4% while Moroccan travelers decreased by 4%.
