São Paulo – Morocco is the best-placed Arab country in the International Football Federation (FIFA) men’s national teams’ rankings. Despite the excellent position, the Moroccans fell two places since the last list, from April, when the country was in 11th. The latest FIFA ranking was released this Thursday (29).
Moroccan football has been standing out worldwide. The country’s national team took fourth place at the 2022 World Cup, which Qatar hosted. It was the best result for an African nation in a World Cup. The Moroccans only had two defeats in Qatar, in the semifinal against France and the match for third place with Croatia. In the last ranking released by FIFA before the World Cup, in October 2022, Morocco was only 22nd. Even so, it was the best-placed Arab team. In the post-World Cup ranking in December 2022, they were already in 11th, a position they maintained until this week in the new FIFA assessment.
In the current ranking, after Morocco, the best-placed Arab nation in men’s football is Tunisia, in 31st. Then comes Egypt, in 34th. Other Arab countries do not appear among the best 50 teams. Brazil is in third place, behind Argentina and France, followed by England and Belgium.
