São Paulo – The government of Morocco and the World Water Council hold the 7th Hassan II Great World Water Prize, one of the most prestigious and globally recognized prizes. This Prize is awarded every three years during the opening ceremony of the World Water Forum. This year’s event the Prize will be awarded at the 9th World Water Forum which will be held in Dakar, Senegal, on March 21. The value of the prize is USD 500,000.
For this edition, the theme chosen is Water security in territories for sustainable development and food security. The aim is to ensure the water security throughout the world, on a territorial level, to enable sustainable and equitable development of populations while preserving nature, protecting the health of populations, and promoting agricultural policies suited to food security.
The Hassan II Great World Water Prize contributes to creating global awareness and taking concrete measures to promote the cause of water. This Prize pays tribute to the memory of the late King Hassan II, and to his strategic vision for the country’s sustainable integrated water resources management, in addressing the kingdom’s water security.
The Prize may be awarded to either an individual, a group of individuals, an institution or an organization. Candidates must be nominated by two persons and/or organizations active in the water resource sector. The registration form is available online at the prize’s website.
