São Paulo – The Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery will advertise olive oil produced in the country to Brazilian executives next week in São Paulo. Ministry officials and Moroccan businessmen will be in Brazil from the 16th to the 18th this month to give a presentation on the product, engage in business matchmaking and pay technical visits. The delegation’s trip counts on support from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
The mission is organized by the Moroccan Food Exports Control and Coordination Organization (EACCE). The delegation will comprise officials from the ministry, EACCE, the Moroccan Agency for Agricultural Development and the National Office of Food Safety.
Executives from eight Moroccan olive oil companies will speak with importers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers interested in buying the product. The companies that will be in the country are: SVCM Castel, Sicoc, Zitoun Atlas, Olea Capital, Lesieur Cristal, Les Huiles de Sais, Ficopam and Agronafis.
The delegation will have its first appointment on Monday morning (16th), with a presentation on the specificities of Moroccan olive oil and a product tasting. The matchmaking event begins in the afternoon and will continue on Tuesday (17th). On Wednesday (18th), the ministry and agencies’ officials will make technical visits.
The EACCE said the mission to Brazil is part of the implementation of the Green Morocco Plan, created in 2008 to prioritize agribusiness in the country. Data from the agency show that olive oil production in Morocco increased from 850,000 tons in the 2008/2009 crop to 1.5 million tons in 2013/2014.
According to the agency, the goal of the Green Morocco Plan is to reach 1.2 million hectares of olive tree groves and 2.5 million tons per year by 2020. At this time, the olive oil industry accounts for roughly 5% of the country’s agricultural GDP and 15% of agricultural exports.
Companies interested in taking part in the matchmaking are to contact Sidi Naji at the Arab Chamber. Matchmaking openings are only available for the Tuesday session, as well as for the Sunday presentation/tasting.
