Rabat – A total of 5.1 million tourists visited Morocco in H1, a 10% rise over the same period of last year, according to the country’s Tourism Observatory. The information was published by Moroccan news agency Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP).
Foreign tourist numbers to Morocco were up 17%, and the number of Moroccan citizens traveling abroad was up 1%. Numbers increased from the leading sources of tourists to Morocco, including Italy (18%), Germany (13%), France (10%), Holland (8%), the United Kingdom (7%) and Spain (6%).
Hotel stays climbed 10% year-on-year in H1. Occupancy averaged at 44%, and the strongest results were seen in Marrakech (56%), Agadir and Taghazout (55%), and Casablanca (56%).
Revenue from non-resident tourism reached MAD 31.2 billion (USD 3.3 billion), up 15.2% year-on-year.
