São Paulo – A study by consultancy company Hays, in partnership with the Oil Gas Job Search site, informs that South America is an attractive region to oil and gas sector professionals. Research involving 53 countries shows that the average annual salary of these professionals is US$ 122,600 in Colombia, US$ 109,000 in Venezuela and US$ 106,700 in Brazil.
"Exploration fields in the pre-salt layer are offering a series of challenges to engineers in the industry and companies are not measuring efforts to attract the best talents,” said Matt Underhill, global director in the area at Hays Oil & Gas. According to him, there is potential in the market for local and foreign talent.
The study also shows that over 30% of the professionals who answered to the research expect 10% greater salaries over 12 months. Among the participants, 26.7% are extremely optimistic with the local market, against 9.7% in 2011.
