Rio de Janeiro – In November, average daily oil and natural gas production by the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras in domestic fields was 2,309,567 barrels of oil equivalent (boe), a volume 6.6% greater than produced in the same month of last year, 2,167,236 barrels per day.
Data disclosed by the company show that oil production alone, not considering gas extraction, grew 7.9% over the past 12 months, whereas natural gas production remained at the same level as in November 2008 and October 2009 – 50.7 million cubic metres/day.
Considering production in domestic fields alone, however, there was a reduction of 0.5% – equivalent to less than 9,800 barrels per day – in comparison with the volume extracted in October.
According to Petrobras, this slight variation was mostly due to the end of long-term testing operations at the Cachalote field, off the coast of the state of Espírito Santo, conducted using the FPSO Seilllean production unit. The company informed, however, that the field of Cachalote will return to production in mid-2010, when another production unit will be installed in the area.
