São Paulo – Desserts company Le Petit Sobremesas of São Paulo is about to sell its first batch to the United Arab Emirates this month: 7,500 petits gateaux for a client in Dubai.
“He owns 20 cafeterias and supplies dessert to hotels,” explains the business’ owner Luciana Reis, regarding her Gulf client. Reis met him in February at Gulfood, the Middle East’s biggest food industry show. Her brand was featured alongside an export-import company in the Brazilian pavilion organized by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
“It’s a fair I had my eyes on for a long time, and I wanted to find out whether it was a good market for us,” says Luciana, whose sweets were “very well accepted” during the event. This first shipment from Le Petit Sobremesas to Dubai will comprise petits gateaux with dulce de leche, guava, and chocolate fillings.
Le Petit Sobremesas has been on the market for over ten years, but only now is it turning to exports. Besides the UAE, the company is in talks with a client in Japan, as a result of going to an expo there. According to Reis, Gulfood should also lead to further sales. “We got lots of feedback and talks are underway with India and Saudi Arabia,” she reveals.
The brand makes petits gateaux in 12 different flavors. In addition to the ones it’s selling to Dubai, available fillings include nutella, ‘prestige’ (grated coconut and chocolate), coffee and berries, with sugar-, gluten- and lactose-free versions. The brand makes 10,000 cakes a day, in addition to brownies and pies.
