São Paulo – On September 26th, the Brazilian minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Fernando Pimentel, will attend a luncheon with businessmen at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce headquarters in São Paulo. At the meeting, he will give a talk on Plano Brasil Maior (Larger Brazil Plan), which addresses the new industrial policy and strategies for Brazilian foreign trade up until 2014.
Enrolment for the event will remain open until the 22nd. The meeting will also be attended by Mauro Borges Lemos, the president of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI). Prior to the event at the Chamber, Pimentel will attend a meeting with the Council of Arab Ambassadors, in Brasília, on the 21st.
“It has already been decided that he (Pimentel) will go to the Arab world in March 2012,” says the Arab Brazilian Chamber CEO Michel Alaby. In this trade mission, the minister will be accompanied by businessmen and should travel to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Topics of the talk should include creating and strengthening critical competences (behaviours that translate into successful actions) for the national economy and expanding domestic and foreign markets for Brazilian companies. Other issues should include ways to enhance productive and technological density on all ends of the chain, and to ensure socially-inclusive, environmentally-sustainable growth.
At the event, Pimentel will also discuss stimulus to investment and innovation, export tariff reduction measures, trade defence, export financing and guarantees, among other subjects.
Pimentel, a native of Belo Horizonte and holder of a degree in Economics, was inaugurated early this year, as part of Dilma Rousseff’s government. In addition to his political career – he was the mayor of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, for the Workers’ Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores – PT) –, he also boasts an extensive academic background. The minister holds a master’s degree in Political Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
