São Paulo – Qatar announced the completion of its third stadium for FIFA World Cup 2022; the event will be hosted for first time in the Middle East. To celebrate the Education City Stadium, Qatar released a video (watch below) honoring the frontline healthcare workers fighting against coronavirus. “We are using this occasion – and the power of sport – to shine a light on their dedication and strength,” the Qatar World Cup 2022 Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy said.
The official completion of the venue was on Monday (15) and, according to the organization, it will be a center of knowledge and innovation, with a 40,000-seat stadium. The stadium has a design that draws on the history of Islamic architecture, blending it with modern elements.
The landscape around Education City Stadium is dotted with leading universities. The area, the home of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the goals of Qatar Foundation. According to the organization, students, faculty and staff can also use these facilities.
The Supreme Committee reported still that the stadium’s most direct contribution to international development will come after it has hosted matches through to the quarter-finals stage of the tournament. The arena’s capacity will be reduced by half and 20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.
