São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Egypt’s Economic and Commercial Office in São Paulo will hold, on Thursday (16), the seminar “Mercosur-Egypt Agreement: A market outlook after two years of implementation.” The event will take place from 9 to 11 am at the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber in São Paulo.
Lecturers will be Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce Foreign Agreements Department director Michael Gamal, the head of Egypt’s Economic and Commercial Office in São Paulo, Mohamed Elkhatib, and Arab Brazilian Chamber Institutional Relations manager Fernanda Baltazar.
“Our goal is to highlight where the bilateral trade stands after two years, show how Brazil and Egypt have benefited from it,” said Arab Brazilian Chamber CEO Tamer Mansour.
The free-trade agreement between Mercosur and Egypt came into force in September 2017 and sees the gradual elimination of import tariffs for more than 90% of the products traded between both parties over ten years. Part of the commodities were made exempt from tariffs as soon as the treaty went into effect, over 1,000 in the case of exports from Mercosur to Egypt.
Mansour highlighted that before the deal, Egypt was the fifth Arab country with the highest trade volume with Brazil, but now stands in third place, taking exports and imports into account.
Considering only exports, Egypt became the number one of Brazil’s Arab markets in 2018, ahead of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“We will discuss new perspectives for these trade relations after two years of the agreement, because other manufactured products will see their tariffs reduced,” said Mansour.
He added that Michael Gamal will also talk about the legislation on this agreement, the documents needed to enjoy its benefits, and the perspective to initiate online certification for Brazilian exports to Egypt. “No one better than [Egypt’s] Foreign Agreement Department director to talk about this,” he said.
The seminar is indicated for companies that do or are interest in doing business with Egypt. Registration is free.
