São Paulo – The Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura is playing a show Thursday evening (2) at the Hard Rock Café in Dubai, UAE. In their third concert in the emirate, the group will play songs from throughout its 35-year career. Tickets are on sale.
Guitarist Andreas Kisser told ANBA via email that expectations are great. “We really enjoy Dubai, and the shows have all been great,” he wrote. Sepultura played Dubai in 2005 at the Desert Rock Festival, which has hosted concerts by other major heavy metal and hard rock bands like The Darkness and Machine Head. In 2017, Sepultura had performed at the Hard Rock Café where it will play this week.
Next Thursday’s show was scheduled by Australia’s Cobra Booking Agency, which is based in Austria and handles all of Sepultura’s concerts. The repertoire doesn’t change from country to country, Kisser said. “We’ll play our usual setlist, after 35 years on the road and 14 albums out,” the guitar player said.
Kisser relates that the group has a strong following in the UAE and in Arab countries, and that they get in touch with the fans on the internet, just like in any other country. Apart from the UAE, the band played another Arab country – Morocco – in 2010.
The band was unable to get into Lebanon last Sunday (28). The Dubai show will air live (see link below), mostly to cater to fans who’d attend the concert in Lebanon.
Tickets for the show at Dubai’s Hard Rock Café are available online (info below). This Monday (29), tickets were going for USD 58.99-USD 244.99. The show begins at 8pm and admission is 21 or older.
The best-known Brazilian heavy metal group is regarded as one of the best in the world in its genre and an influence on other bands. Sepultura straddles heavy metal, hardcore, thrash, punk and tribal sounds. Their latest record, Machine Messiah, was inspired by the process of robotization of society and produced and recorded at Fascination Street Studios, in Sweden.
The band was formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, who are no longer with the band. The current lineup is Derrick Green on vocals, Paulo Jr. on bass, Eloy Casagrande on drums and Andreas Kisser on guitar.
The Hard Rock Café where Sepultura ‘s playing is set in Dubai Festival City, an entertainment-oriented mall including outdoor attractions. After the concert, the band will get a day off to see the city and the country, Kisser said.
