Rio de Janeiro – The services sector saw 1.2% growth in September from August in Brazil, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Tuesday (12). The sector is up 0.6% year-to-date in 2-10 and 0.7% in the 12 months through September.
The services grew 0.6% year-on-year in Q3, an improvement over Q2’s 0.1% result.
The IBGE reported increased activity in four out of five activity types. Information and communication services was the only subsector where activity slowed, by 1% in September from August.
Activity picked up by 1.6% in transportation, ancillary services and postal services (pictured, GRU Airport in Guarulhos, São Paulo), and by 1.8% in professional, administrative and complementary services. There was a 0.8% increase in services rendered to families, and a 0.5% increase in other services.
Year-on-year in September, services as a whole picked up by 1.4%, with growth in three out of five subsectors.
Here, information and communication services increased by 2.2%; other services increased by 11%; and professional, administrative and complementary services increased by 2.9%. Activity was down 1.7% in transportation, ancillary services and postal services, and down 0.3% for services rendered to families.
