São Paulo – Huge limestone rocks to be used for landscaping at golf courses in the United Arab Emirates. It was by supplying this material that company Dekor Art, based in the city of Maceió, in the state of Alagoas, returned to the Middle Eastern market six years after it first exported to the region, more precisely to Saudi Arabia.
The sale was made indirectly, by means of an Egyptian company that builds golf courses in the Emirates. Four containers were sold in late 2009, and 100 tonnes of the Brazilian product were shipped to the Arab country.
According to Gustavo Rocha, the partner of Dekor Art who is charge of exports, the company wants to expand its business in the Arab countries and is ready to meet future demands.
"We have enough inventory to fill up to five containers for immediate delivery," says Rocha. Each container holds from 25 to 27 tonnes of stones. Dekor Art has customers in 12 countries, mostly European.
Rocha claims, however, that exports have dropped sharply as a result of the world crisis. Prior to that, foreign sales used to account for up 70% of company revenues. Presently, the bulk of Dekor Art‘s sales go to the domestic market.
Nevertheless, the businessman regards the Arab market as a source of future business for his company. "It is a very promising market. The local construction industry used to be booming and tends to get back to normal. We believe some good deals may come up in the region," he finishes off.
